To Gleek or not to Gleek?

Okay, today I'm writing about Glee.... though I am not yet sure what my opinion is going to be. Here's the thing: the music is good. It's really good. Its so good that I often buy the music on itunes, actually... but the show.... well, to give you an idea, this week I decided to blog during the show instead of closely watching it. Sometimes the plot points are just not there, and sometimes they are right on. This week is just not doing it for me.
Decision? Its worth watching if you have the time, but not worth canceling Tuesday night plans for.
Does this make me a Gleek?... probably not. There are more important things in life, and more interesting plots to follow than Glee. The awesome music and occasionally hilarious episode keep me watching (though usually not while it actually airs Tuesday nights), but over all my decision on the matter.... is not to Gleek.

One Speech I'll Remember

Sunday May 1st 2011
"Good evening. Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who’s responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women and children. It was nearly ten years ago that a bright September day was darkened by the worst attack on the American people in our history. The images of 9/11 are seared into our national memory. Hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky, the twin towers collapsing to the ground, black smoke billowing up from the pentagon, the wreckage of flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where the actions of heroic citizens saved even more heartbreak and destruction."
For the whole speech click here. (No idea how long this link will last)

Wow. What a start to a speech! Is it wrong to not know exactly how to react to this speech? Well, Mr President, I guess we should be saying good job... though I feel bad celebrating the end of a life... however horrible the person in question was to millions of people. Times like these do remind me of one of my favorite country songs: Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American) by Toby Keith.
Well, while Osama bin Laden may no longer have control over any of the actions of Al Qaeda, it is clear that there will still be others who come in to take his place, new enemies to fear and to fight. It is unfortunate that this is a world where senseless fights are apparently unavoidable. I am extremely thankful to everyone, including members of my own family, who works towards the safety of our country.
It was said tonight that we, as Americans, have seen and felt the effects of war.... something I am not denying, but we have only felt the outside ripple. The majority of Americans live their lives daily without a second thought to the hardships endured in countries that are less fortunate, or in countries where the wars occur right outside their door. We are so blessed to have been able to live life in this way for so long and my prayer is that, so long as we are forced to live in a world where war seems unavoidable, we are never again forced  to endure it at our doorstep. This at least we can be thankful and prayerful for.
Uh oh, I feel another country song coming on.... Have you forgotten? by Daryl Worley. Gosh, I love this song. For the record, I don't listen to this stuff everyday, but I think the lyrics in a lot of patriotic country songs are dead on.  Listen to the lyrics, don't tell me they don't strike a chord with you. Well, Daryl Worley, I have not forgotten, and tonight, neither has anyone else.

I am blogging about this tonight not because I closely follow politics or have some huge political statement to say, but because I don't want to forget this. Someone once told me that when I was older, perhaps with grand children, they would come home from school with a  project about recording their grandparent's memories about a momentous historical event in their lives. I know I had projects like those. Well 9/11, that person told me, might very well be that event that you talk about, so remember it. Don't forget what happened, how you felt. Well I feel like tonight is a part of that event. I mean, even as I am typing this, at least 3 hours or so after President Obama's speech, I hear fireworks that someone has set off. Earlier, all the students in my apartment complex ran out on their balconies to celebrate this long awaited announcement. Yes, we've been about ten years in waiting, but now its here. This death that has been so long anticipated by the American peoples is a part of that same story.
Now as we continue on to the next chapter, I pray that our government seeks the wisdom and council of the Lord; let us be one nation under God once again. Tonight has indeed been a most memorable night in the history of our generation.

Shoes.

I feel like I'm packing my life away as I prepare for my trip to Singapore. Of course, remember that this is no mere trip, but a full 6/7 month stay there. I am packing my entire apartment plus anything from the house that I might possibly want before my parents come back. I have way too much stuff. Do you know what I have sooooo many of, though? (Hint: read title) Shoes.
What do you want me to say? I have no excuse, no defense. Do you ever wonder how shoes pile up so easily?
1.) I live in Florida. I own flip flops. More than 1 pair. Think about it. If flip flops are to be part of your everyday (including winter) wardrobe, you probably have different kinds. At least a brown and black pair, right? Ad maybe an extra older pair you wear to the pool or beach? 3 pairs.
2.) I do "activities." When I exercise, I need running shoes. If I'm going hiking or walking, I use a different pair of sneakers, preferably nicer looking ones. You're looking at two pairs here (at the least).
3.) It gets cold. Don't you scoff, you unbelievers! We have freezing temperatures! Yes sometimes I wear tennis-shoe like shoes in the cold, but I have boots as well. Again, more than one pair for matching purposes. Plus 2 pairs of boots.
4.) I dress up. I go to church, go out with my friends, give presentations in class... I wear nice shoes for these. And yes, you could have simply one black and one brown pair to match with almost anything, but you know that isn't the case. For Easter you by shoes to match your new dress. For prom you buy a new pair of sparkly heels matched just perfectly to that full length gown. In the summer you wear white, but have to switch the shoe colors up in the fall... I'll be conservative here, and say for this category.... 5 pairs.

Let's add them. Even with my conservative calculation, it would be completely normal and acceptable to have 12 pairs of shoes. Add that to the fact that the number of shoes owned often grows exponentially because while you "need" the new pair, the old pair isn't quite ruined enough to through away. You might need them one day. Also, the fact that people tend to remain the same shoes size (at least for a while) doesn't help.I mean, lets face it; its probably not uncommon for women to have at least twice if not three times as many shoes as in my skimpy prediction!

Are you getting my drift here? What I'm saying is that it is very easy for the number of shoes you own to pile up.... as mine have done. And now I don't know what to do with them. I can't take them all with me. I probably shouldn't even pack them all away. Will this be the end of our relationship together? No! I can't even stand the thought! (dropping the melodramatic feel now)
*sigh* It does seem sad to say, but having to make the tough decision of which shoes to take, which to store and which to.... well, T-O-S-S (I don't want them getting nervous!) does sort of make packing all that much harder!
Oh packing, I guess stirring up enough dust to keep me sneezing through July isn't enough for you.... well I'll show you! I WILL pack my shoes!....but maybe tomorrow.

Heavy Hearts

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Matthew 5:4

Today my heart is heavy and filled with sorrow. I can't escape it no matter how hard I try. The pain of loosing someone is overwhelming. I seek the comfort and peace promised.

Even though we have not spoken for several years, I am deeply saddened by your untimely passing. I remember clearly the experiences we shared during our school years. You will still be in my thoughts and prayers.

Clint Howard 10/11/11

Words cannot express how I feel about you. Even now, I am filled with sadness by your passing. Know that you made a lasting impression on me, and I still miss you.

Roy Homer Prewitt 12/5/10
Gerald Coleman Guinn 3/8/11

To my two grandfathers, I miss and love you so much. All I can do is to hope and trust that we will one day see each other again in Heaven.

"When we arrive at eternity's shore
where death is just a memory and tears are no more,
we'll enter in as the wedding bells ring.
Your bride will come together and we'll sing...
You're beautiful."

Banana Diet

So I here I am on Tuesday researching the Japanese and why they live so long (for a school paper), when I come across this "banana diet" that is apparently sweeping across Japan. My first though: Banana Diet? Yeah right.  clicked on the link. It's like a legit article and everything. My second thought: well, I like bananas.  :)

Okay, so here it is.... the Banana Diet, I mean.
Breakfast: Eat a banana. Actually, I think you can pretty much eat however many bananas you want. Also, drink some water at room temperature.
Lunch and Dinner: normal.
Get a normal amount of sleep (I think about 8 hours).

That is it!!!!! easy right? I have NO idea if it works, but I think I'm gonna try it!

I'm also adding some rules of my own.... just because I want to.
1.) No eating meals after 10pm!
2.) Bed by 2am!
3.) Only eat desserty foods after lunch and before super!!! Exceptions can be made for events and stuff, but on normal days it can't.

Allllll right Banana Diet..... here we go!.... Tomorrow morning, that is!

Keys

So this morning (or Wednesday morning, really) I left my apartment. Okay, it was really about 12:30 so afternoon. After a day spent on the grass by the school's pond/ chik-fil-a/ spanish class/ ballroom class/ my friend's car.... I somehow managed to return home only to discover that I lost my keys.
I just want to add that since I was planning on leaving to go home for the weekend, this was the best (in the most sarcastic meaning) time to loose them!
NOW, instead of staying up and sleeping late, I am forced to sleep early(er) and wake up early to go look for them! Ugh!

On the brighter side, I am currently listening to my ipod and Firework by Katy Perry just came on. Have you seen the awesome youtube link for a guy singing(sort of) this song?

Sorry about the size, but I couldn't resist putting the video up... he is the only person I can think of whenever that song comes on! <3

Anything but Homework

Hey! So.... today is Monday. yuck yuck yuck for another school week. I meant to post yesterday to keep with the "Sunday" theme, but no such luck. That reminds me, in regards to last week's posting: fail. I didn't really go to the gym at all last week! I was also supposed to go this morning. Fail. I am going tonight though. To Zumba, actually.
So what should I be doing right now? Homework. I have to read something for my Spanish class then write a response to it, but so far I have been doing pretty much anything BUT that. I actually have a lot of reading and stuff to do, but I can't help that it is all just so boring. *sigh* On top of that, I have pretty much not done anything else today either. I mean, I haven't showered or eaten or ANYTHING! Well, my class isn't until 4:30, so I guess I still have time :)
